Following the legacy of Hioniades, Zerma was a second but equally important center of post-byzantine painters that flourished in the 17th century. Unfortunately, the continuous landslides forced the inhabitabts to abandon the picturesque village and finally establish a new one just opossite the old one in the early '80s. Although new, Plagia, the new established village, is totally harmonised with the magnificent natural environment. Locals are making efforts to preserve their unique heritage through the safeguarding of their traditional customs.
