The springs of Ziasikas, a tributary of Sarantaporos, and an amazing natural environment of oaks and black pine forests form the surroundings, where Amarandos village is built. Only a few miles from the national borders, the area was an ancient crossroad, that thrived up to 15th century when the Turkeys invaded it. Five kilometres north of the village are located the thermal baths. The modern facilities were built in respect of the rich masonry craft heritage. The ancient trade paths of Kamenik (Mt. Grammos peak, 2042m) were bridged with the works of masonry craftsmen and led the 'Bouloukia' from Amarandos to spread the art of craftsmanship all over the world (Papaioannou 2008: 163-165)
